JULY 2021

“Dreamy Lilacs” was painted during the Mackinac Island Lilac Festival in June. It’s available only as an original watercolor, 12x18. I love the watercolory feel of this painting. Check out my website,, for hotels and B&Bs and all my favorite places on the island.

The lilacs were absolutely splendid this year. I spent one day of the festival with friends who snapped this photo of me showing off my lilac tee shirt which I designed especially for this year and available at Artists Market on the island or on my website. Another day of the festival I spent at Artists Market doing an artist appearance. It had been two years since I’d done this and it was wonderful to reconnect with customers and the energetic staff at one of the cutest stores on the island.
Lately I’ve had time for little else but filling orders—it’s an extremely busy season on Mackinac Island and shops are ordering and selling artwork like never before. Here’s part of a recent order I put together –5x7 matted prints of island scenes. One of my customers, Joan Urmson of Marienville, Pennsylvania recently received her order and sent this message: “It came today—it’s so beautiful! I love it and I’m so proud to own one of your pieces of work.”

A portion of all my website sales have gone to help stock the shelves of my local food pantry to feed thirty hungry families in my area. Thank you for all your help by ordering my artwork and making these donations possible.

My books make wonderful souvenirs of your trip to Mackinac Island They are also great gifts for all occasions. BothMackinac Island Meditations and Garden Meditations are 32 pages of illustrations reproduced from my original watercolor paintings along with scripture verses, meditations, and prayers. A perfect gift for a loved one—or a treat for yourself. Order online at or find it in one of the fine shops on Mackinac Island or in Mackinaw City.

The view from my window looking out over the Straits of Mackinac is inspiring no matter what the season. Summer is my favorite, of course, when there’s lots of activity: ferries to and from Mackinac Island, freighters hauling their loads of cement and iron ore to ports on the Great Lakes, fishing boats, sailboats—the list goes on and on.  Always something to see!

In every season there are eagles swooping down on some unsuspecting critter. Swans, geese and gulls in three seasons. And then there are the trees—bare branches in the winter that transition to springy green, bright green, then finally bright reds and oranges in autumn. I love my view!
