APRIL 2021

Tulips, tulips, tulips! It seems that I can’t get enough of this early spring bloomer. Do I have spring fever? Um…yes! All three in my tulip series are acrylic paintings. Both of these paintings are available in originals, reproductions, matted prints and notecards on my website,

“A Rainbow of Tulips” is a 16x20 wrapped canvas where the sides are painted with a continuation of the design.

“Red Tulips? Check!” has its wrapped edges painted with a fun checked pattern to go with the pitcher, ready to hang as is or frame if you wish.

Same wrapped edges on the 8x10 “Crushing on Orange Tulips." This original painting has already gone to a new home, but cards and matted prints will be available.

All of my tulip paintings were inspired by my severe case of spring fever!

“Humming Along” is my way of welcoming the not-far-off summer season. My garden is filled with pollinator-friendly flowers such as the bee balm in this painting, and the little hummers love it! This is a 9x12 watercolor done in an online class with Megan Swoyer—original painting and reproductions are available on my website.

Check out other original paintings on my website .

My tee shirt design for 2021 is finished and is now with the art department at the company that will print my tee shirts. By this summer this lilac shirt will be a reality—just in time for the Lilac Festival on Mackinac Island! The row of perky purple lilacs will have MACKINAC ISLAND printed below it. Shirts will be available on my website and at Artists Market of Mackinac Island in June.

I’m still enjoying taking my watercolor and acrylic ZOOM classes, but now that I’m preparing for the busy summer season, I’m having to cut back on the classes. It’s been so much fun learning new ways of doing things while still staying true to my personal style. I’ve taken my first large order of the season from a Mackinac Island shop, and that is my focus now.

A portion of all my website sales have gone to help stock the shelves of my local food pantry to feed thirty hungry families in my area. Thank you for all your help by ordering my artwork and making these donations possible.

If you’ve reached out to me asking about when I will be doing live classes, thanks so much. Living during this pandemic sure has had me thinking a lot and figuring out next steps for what I want to do with my business. I’ve made a decision that when I begin to teach classes again, they will only be in my home studio and garden, not anywhere else. I know things will start to open up at some point and teaching here at home is what I will feel most comfortable doing. Watch future newsletters for announcements about classes.

My books make wonderful Mother’s Day gifts for that special lady who means so much to you. Both Mackinac Island Meditations and Garden Meditations are 32 pages of illustrations reproduced from my original watercolor paintings along with scripture verses, meditations, and prayers. My books are perfect gifts for a loved one—or treat yourself to one of my books. If you’d like a personalized message in your book, let me know in the notes when you order online.

Come join the fun and follow me on Facebook (Watercolor Paintings by Mary Lou Peters) and on Instagram (#maryloupeterspainter) as we connect over artwork. If you are already a follower, thank you! Here’s what one of my Facebook followers had to say about a recent post: “You are so darn talented! Your works bring a beam of sunlight to the world!” (Buck Buchanan,  Allendale, Michigan). Thank you so much, Buck! What a lovely compliment!

It’s been so much fun taking ZOOM classes this winter. I love learning new things, and even though I’ve been at this a long time, there’s still a lot to learn. I’ve been painting more than ever this winter and am now putting together orders for galleries and shops on Mackinac Island and in Mackinaw City. I love this part of my work too. And when I think that at this time last year we weren’t sure what this year would hold, I’m very excited and grateful to be filling orders for shop owners whose businesses have survived through this strange year.
