Northern Health Plan
Many communities in Michigan are using an innovative approach to providing health care benefits to persons in need. Programs called County Health Plans are serving as a vehicle to provide access to organized systems of health care for the indigent uninsured and lower income persons without private or public health insurance. Each County Health Plan is responsible for administering the State's Adult Benefits Waiver (ABW) program for the county or counties it services.
Through contracts with local hospitals, most County Health Plans have expanded their coverage through various programs to include low income uninsured residents in their service areas. Qualified low income uninsured residents of Alpena, Antrim, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Emmet, Montmorency, Otsego, and Presque Isle county are eligible for a health care coverage program through the Northern Health Plan.
